Amos Key Jr.
Welcome To Amos Key Jr. E-Learning Institute

Principal’s Message

It is an honour to be part of the team here at Gai Hon Nya: Ni:’ - Amos Key Jr. E-Learning Institute. We are setting up the foundation for a unique way of presenting curriculum, that is, via online synchronous learning. Our mandate is to reach out to Aboriginal Youth living in the urban centres of the Niagara Region and in need of completing the requirements for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Our structure is based on the model of the Sunchild E-Learning Community in Alberta and will follow the Ontario Ministry of Education Curriculum.

Our courses will be taught in real time and our students can be anywhere, as long as they have a computer and internet access. Students might be at home, at one of our site offices or in a local library. They can actively participate in the discussion via the use of technology and will have the ability to review any class at their leisure because all classes will be archived. Achievement will be tracked on a weekly basis as we want to ensure our students every opportunity to be successful.

We are looking forward to assisting you with your desire to complete your high school studies.

Our Pledge

The Gai hon nya ni ~ the Amos Key Jr. E Learning Institute Pledge is:

To engage any Aboriginal Student in Ontario who possess the interest, the  savvy, the acumen and the self discipline to want to enter the world of e-learning to achieve their Ontario Secondary School Credits.

Whether the goal is to achieve one, two, three or all credits on line, all courses will be offered in real time, with a real teacher and with the convenience of doing it 'on- line'.

Simply put:  it will be a private 'school without walls'.

The only challenge of this e-learning environment will be the lack of imagination and the limitations will be  in itself the  limits of the technology and mastering the ever changing innovations.

Why E-learning?

Why the Gai hon nya ni ~ the Amos Key Jr. E-learning Institute?

The need for such an innovative institute is compelling, timely and just!

It is well known fact the Aboriginal Peoples of Canada enjoy knowing they are the fastest growing population segment in Ontario and Canada.

At the same time it is well known, they also suffer the highest drop out rate at 60 per cent and climbing,  or the poorest retention rate and dropping of secondary students in Ontario and Canada. Therein, lies the social dilemma, the social stigma and the social injustice.

What is just?  Is is just and compelling, to merely acknowledge these numbers and let them grow?  Or is it just and timely to have NPAAMB whose mandate is organized to provide employment services and training for urban Aboriginal and First Nations communities with a special social mandate to target urban Aboriginal and First Nations youth, to step up and to step forward by providing effective and affective leadership in seeking the support of internal stake holders in their respective  communities to begin this vital work of righting this social wrong, this social marginalization.

If the answer is, yes?

Then it is incumbent upon NPAAMB to provide effective and affective leadership in seeking and engaging external partners to address this social wrong, this social marginalization, that weighs heavy against the fastest growing population segment in this country and province.

NPAAMB then armed with its quiet diplomacy, professional competencies. skills and abilities are willing to take a calculated 'noble risk' and again provide leadership based on the fabric and pattern of its 'social enterprise' in order to offer this innovative e learning private secondary school opportunity and experience to their respective communities.   Perhaps then they too can enjoy a quality of life in their respective community that is healthy, social, civil and just.  One that is only limited by the intellect and the hopes and aspirations of the individual within.

This vital work towards the 'noble risk' has begun by piloting this innovative Ontario private synchronous secondary school.

To honour the leadership and public service of Amos Key Jr. President of the Board.  The NPAAMB were unanimous in their decision to name the private school after their President to honour him and his extended family.
